Annamari Basora, Carolina Fabregat and María José Balañá – the new Sí al futur Board members

On Friday evening, Víctor Font will present three new Sí al futur Board members. They are Annamari Basora (born in Manresa, 1961), María José Balañá (Barcelona, 1957) and Carolina Fabregat (Barcelona, 1987). Their presentation will take place at an event organised by Sí al futur to reflect on the role of women in sport. With the addition of Ms Basora, Ms Balañá and Ms Fabregat, in combination with the already-announced introduction of Joana Barbany and Teresa Andreu, the campaign headed by Víctor Font will result in Barça having the largest number of female Board members in the Club’s history.

Annamari Basora, who has a joint honours Bachelor’s in Economics and Business Studies, and Market Research and Marketing from the University of Barcelona, and has completed the Program for Management Development at IESE Business School, is currently Communication and Sponsorship Director at the newspaper La Vanguardia. Ms Basora will bring experience in and knowledge of the social and institutional spheres to the Barça Board of directors.

María José Balañá, who has a Bachelor’s in Medicine and is Head of the Entertainment Division of Grup Balañá, will provide experience of running a business, with particular emphasis on social and institutional matters within the Club.

Last but not least, Carolina Fabregat, who has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management from ESADE Business School, has run start-ups throughout her career, starting out in wealth management; she is now a director of Food Haven, which she founded. If the project led by Víctor Font comes to run the Club, she will specialise in the business-related matters handled by the Board of directors.

Anecdote: 8 March 2017: Champions League – round of 16 – Barça 6-1 Paris St. Germain.

I went to the ground with my sister. Sat next to us that evening were some PSG fans, there expecting to have a good evening. My sister, who had already lost faith, left 10 minutes before so, when it turned out like we all know it did, the only thing I could think of doing, when I was going absolutely berserk, was hug the devastated French bloke in the seat next to me and celebrate with him! What a NIGHT!

Interesting fact: I am the niece of Estanislao Basora (legendary Barça forward of the 1940s and 1950s) and daughter of Joaquim Basora (a winger who played for Barça in the 1952-53 season), dubbed Basora “II Palos” by the first Luis Suárez to play for the Club, back in the 1950s. I was also married to the late Jaume Massó, first Head of Sports at Catalan-language TV channel TV3 and creator of its football highlights programme: Gol a Gol.

Memory: Childhood: 7 April 1974, Barça beat Gijón 4-2 at El Molinón, winning the league for the first time since I was born – and I was there!

Example of passion: I have always gone to away games whenever I can. I have travelled to watch Barça in the Champions League: the finals in Rome and London (Wembley), plus the semis in Liverpool. I’ve been to league away games at the RCDE Stadium (Espanyol), the Montilivi (Girona), the Benito Villamarín (Betis) and the Sánchez Pizjuan (Sevilla). I also went to the basketball Copa del Rey tournaments in Seville (2004), Malaga (2007) and Vitoria (2008). Plus, when there is a big game, I tie my Barça scarf to my motorbike! I’ve also been to a few women’s football matches in recent years. And the whole family and friends meet at home now on Barça’s away matches.

6. What type of Culé are you?

I am an optimistic culé. In the ground, I enjoy commenting on the game with my stairway-433 buddies. I usually take a nice ham baguette with me on match nights.

7. Our slogan means “Yes to the Future”. What do you think is the thing Barça need to improve most urgently in your field?

As a Club, we urgently need to get back the identity and reputation that made us “More than a Club”. We have to get back to being standard-setters, winners, competitive, transparent, committed and Catalan!

8. Do you have a couple of suggestions for those rare times when we are thinking of something other than Barça?

A series: Breaking Bad

María José Balañá Mombrú

2. Date and place of birth:

63 years old, Barcelona

3. Education:

Bachelor’s in Medicine

4. Professional field and noteworthy experience:

After completing my studies, I became a junior doctor at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital, Barcelona After working in healthcare for seven years, family circumstances caused me to take a short career break to work for the family company (Grup Balañá), which mainly operates in the entertainment sector.

I started out with big concerts. Later, I brought theatres into the company’s portfolio. I also took charge of computerising ticket sales.

I was captivated by these challenges, so I am still on my career break, still working in Grup Balañá.

5. My link to Barça:

My first great memory is travelling to Basel for the 1979 Cup Winners’ Cup. I went with university friends and we had a very long weekend out on the town, including an incredibly good final.

6. What type of Culé are you?

I would say I’m focused. I don’t eat or drink while I’m in the ground. If the stakes are high, I can’t bear to watch. Otherwise, I just get angry. Always optimistic.

7. Our slogan means “Yes to the Future”. What do you think is the thing Barça need to improve most urgently in your field?

Hope. The fans need to trust that Sí al futur will work to turn things around, on and off the pitch.

8. Do you have a couple of suggestions for those rare times when we are thinking of something other than Barça?

Going to the cinema or to a concert, reading a good book... and travelling.

1. Name:

Carolina Fabregat Ollé

2. Date and place of birth:

33 years old, Barcelona

3.Education:

Business administration and management, ESADE Business School

4. Professional field and noteworthy experience:

I have founded start-ups in the restaurant, wealth management and tech sectors. In my professional life, I specialised on finance, specifically wealth management in the institutional context. I later founded two companies in the tourism and restaurant sector. I am currently a founding partner and director of Food Haven, a virtual restaurant chain specialising in food deliveries and takeaway.

5. My link to Barça:

• When I was little, I found it really hard to get to sleep. Tired of trying to get me to drop off, my mum would put me in my dad’s arms – the only thing that soothed me was the sound of the commentators from Barça matches. I used to nod off to the sound of the games.

• When Barça won a trophy, I used to be glued to Barça TV until the early hours and I would go to sleep in my Barça shirt.

• In my bedroom, I had a whole wall made of cork, which was covered with photos from the papers of Barça’s trophies or big games, like the 5-0 and 6-2 wins against Real Madrid.

• In 2017, on the day of our 3-2 win at the Bernabéu, I promised that I would jump in the swimming pool if we ended winning the match. And that’s what I did.

• I was one of the bold culés who went to Milan for the 2010 Champions League semi against Inter (you couldn’t fly because of the ash cloud from the Icelandic volcano, Eyjafjallajökull). Having lost 3-1, the journey back was tough... but I’d do it again.

• On the day of the 6-1 against PSG, I was at the Camp Nou, pregnant with my first daughter. I couldn’t stop myself from jumping onto the seat and celebrating.

• I was at the finals in Paris, London (Wembley) and Berlin.

6. What type of Culé are you?

I’m optimistic and I get behind the team. I experience matches very intensely.

7. Our slogan means “Yes to the Future”. What do you think is the thing Barça need to improve most urgently in your field?

• Making Barça the most respected Club in the world in terms of image, financial management, social responsibility and on-the-pitch results.

• Attracting talent to Barça and retaining it. We have to make it so that talented culés want to work for our Club and don’t leave for others.

• Turning Barça into a big multinational.

• Giving the women’s football sections of Barça a boost.

8. Do you have a couple of suggestions for those rare times when we are thinking of something other than Barça?

• Outdoor team sports: basketball, mountain biking, skiing, golf, etc.

• Listening to good music, playing the guitar and singing.

• Writing.

• Spending time with my family.
