Antoni Bassas’ book on Víctor Font and his Sí al futur project to be presented June 12th

The public presentation of the book that journalist Antoni Bassas has written about Víctor Font and Sí al futur, the project that seeks to offer a new proposal to the FC Barcelona members when the next elections for the presidency of the Club are held, will be presented at the Casa del Llibre (Rambla de Catalunya, 37) in Barcelona next Wednesday, June 12, at 7:30 p.m. The book, bearing the title Construïm junts el Barça del futur (Let us build together the Barça of the future), is published by Columna, and will be on sale from June 12th in all the main bookshops in Catalonia, at the price of €12.95. The presentation ceremony, which is open to the public, will be attended by the author, Antoni Bassas, and Víctor Font, and will be hosted by journalist Pere Escobar.

Víctor Font announced on June 11, 2018 that he would run for the next elections to the presidency of FC Barcelona. According to Font, Barça faces the perfect storm: Messi's farewell and that of the best generation of football players in history will coincide with the costly redevelopment of the Camp Nou stadium, with an obsolete revenue model and a growingly fierce competition by teams owned by states or big fortunes. If Barça does not overcome all these simultaneous challenges, it risks losing the style of play that Johan Cruyff inspired and made Barça unique, it may stop winning and also endanger the Club ownership by the members.

Journalist Antoni Bassas interviewed Mr Font to find out who is this consultant in the field of telecommunications, the media and the world of technology, and what the Yes to the Future project is like – the project he is currently building to get Barça to continue in the leading positions of world football while its members continue retaining its ownership.

VÍCTOR FONT (Granollers, 1972) holds Barça membership card number 70,990. An entrepreneur, businessman and consultant, he studied a degree in Business Administration and Management and an MBA. He played in the lower echelons of Esport Club Granollers between 1979 and 1990, where he coincided with footballers Sergi Barjuan, brothers Juli and Gerard López, and Toni Jiménez, among others. He finished his amateur football days playing at the Atlètic del Vallès Club and at Gramics.

A Barça enthusiast from a very young age, he collaborated with the candidature of Joan Laporta in the 2003 presidential election, and in 2010 he promoted with Ferran Soriano and Marc Ingla the candidacy that would eventually be led by Ingla.

In 2014, he created the Yes to the Future project and in 2015 he made the first public appearance explaining his vision of the Barça post-Messi challenges. On June 11, 2018 he announced that he would run for the 2021 elections.

He is married, has three children and sits in the same Camp Nou seats where he used to with his grandfather and his father.

ANTONI BASSAS (Barcelona, 1961) began his professional career as a sports journalist. After making his debut on Ràdio Joventut radioing from Third Division pitches, he joined the broadcasting of Barça matches by Joaquim Maria Puyal, first in Ràdio Barcelona (1981) and later in Catalunya Ràdio (1985), a task that allowed him to work in the most important stadiums of Spain and Europe for fourteen seasons.

He summarised his experiences following Barça, from Maradona and Schuster to Johan Cruyff’s Dream Team, in the book A un pam de la glòria! (1994).

In 1998 he co-directed and hosted the talk show Aquest any, Cent! (This year, the Centenary!), which brought the protagonists of the first century of Barça to TV3 Catalan channel.

In 2009 he participated in the foundation of the Washington DC Supporters Club.

In 2018 he won the Josep Pla literary prize with the book Bon dia, són les vuit! (Good morning, this is eight o’clock a.m.!), in which he narrates his experiences as the voice that used to say good morning to Catalonia. The first game he remembers having seen at the Camp Nou is Barça - Madrid refereed by Guruceta, on June 6, 1970, which ended with the police charging against Barça fans.
